Sod Installation

What you get from us.

Sod is a living product with a clock on it.

UF/IFAS says sod on a pallet lasts less than 48 hours in summer, so it has to go down fast.

Before that, the work is in the ground: old turf out, grades set, soil prepared.

We fit the pieces tight in a staggered brick pattern, so the seams are offset.

Then the lawn is rolled to take out air pockets.

We help you choose the grass for your sun, shade, traffic and salt exposure.

You get a clear watering schedule, because the first month decides the lawn.

What is included

The scope, spelled out.

  • Grass selection

St. Augustine, zoysia or bahia, matched to the yard.

  • Removal of old turf

Dead or weedy lawn is stripped out so new sod meets bare soil.

  • Grading

Final grades are set so water moves away from the house.

  • Soil preparation

The surface is raked smooth and firm, ready for roots to peg down.

  • Sod laid and rolled

Tight seams in a staggered brick pattern, then rolled.

  • Watering setup

Sprinkler zones are checked and set for the establishment schedule.

Brevard County conditions

Pick the grass for the yard.

UF/IFAS lists St. Augustine, zoysia and bahia as adapted statewide. They behave very differently.

St. Augustine rates good for salt and shade. Standard cultivars are mowed at 3.5 to 4 inches.

Zoysia rates good to excellent for wear. Bahia rates excellent for drought but very poor for salt.

UF/IFAS says sod should be fully established three to four weeks after it is laid.

The St. Johns River Water Management District lets new landscape be watered any day for the first 30 days.

So beachside we steer away from bahia.
