Our workMulch & Beds
What you get from us.
Mulch is the last thing we put down and the first thing you notice.
It also does real work: it holds moisture in sandy soil and keeps weeds down.
We start with the beds: weeds out, edges recut, plants pruned back from the lines.
Then mulch goes down at an even depth across the bed, not in piles.
We keep it off trunks and thin it out next to the house.
New beds are cut, shaped and planted as part of a full plan or as their own project.
For beds that need ongoing care, our maintenance side offers garden management.
What is included
The scope, spelled out.
Bed cleanup
Weeds, debris and spent plants are cleared before any mulch goes down.
Edge definition
Bed lines are recut so lawn and planting meet in a clean line.
Mulch at 3 inches
Spread to the depth Florida-Friendly Landscaping recommends, and even across the bed.
Trunks left clear
Mulch is pulled back from tree trunks and plant stems, never mounded against them.
New garden beds
Beds are cut and graded, the soil is prepared, and the planting goes in.
Stone and xeriscape beds
Rock, gravel and low-water planting where turf or mulch is not the right fit.
Our work
Brevard County conditions
Three inches, off the trunk.
Florida-Friendly Landscaping, the UF/IFAS program, recommends mulching to a depth of 3 inches.
It says pine bark settles slowly, pine straw breaks down quickly, and melaleuca settles very slowly.
The program does not recommend cypress mulch, because it may be sourced from endangered wetlands.
UF/IFAS warns against volcano mulching: mulch piled on a trunk holds moisture and encourages rot.
Near the house, UF/IFAS advises a thin layer, under 2 inches, within 12 inches of the foundation.
