Landscaping in Cocoa Beach

Twenty-six minutes out SR 520.

Cocoa Beach City Hall is about 26 minutes from our office, 13.5 miles by road.

We take US-1 north, cross Merritt Island on the SR 520 causeways, then turn south on A1A.

The city is a barrier island with 5.6 miles of oceanfront and the Banana River behind it.

Thirty-seven canals, nine miles in all, run past residential homes.

Only about 29% of homes are detached houses. Just over half are in buildings of ten or more units.

The typical home dates to 1975. Neighborhoods run from Cocoa Isles to Minutemen Causeway downtown.

We design and install for canal lots, ocean lots and condo entries, with salt in mind first.

Streets and neighborhoods we know

Local conditions

What Cocoa Beach yards ask for.

Ocean in front and river behind. Salt picks the plants, and the city sets rules for the rest.

  • Salt from two directions

UF/IFAS says plants within about an eighth of a mile of the coast need some salt tolerance.

  • Fifteen feet from the water

The city says to keep fertilizer at least 15 feet from canals, ponds, waterways and the lagoon.

  • Lights that face the beach

Nesting season runs March 1 to October 31. We follow FWC guidance: low, shielded, long wavelength.

  • City reclaimed water

Cocoa Beach runs its own reclaimed water system, and city staff set the watering days and hours.
