Landscape Design & Installation in Merritt Island, FL

Water on both sides.

Merritt Island sits between the Indian River and the Banana River.

Salt air and water views shape every plan we draw here.

Landscaping in Merritt Island

Eleven minutes, one causeway.

Merritt Island is about 11 minutes from our office: US-1 north, then SR 520 over the causeway.

It is an unincorporated island with the Indian River on one side and the Banana River on the other.

The typical island home was built around 1973, and about 80% of homes are owner-occupied.

On the east side, the island splits around Sykes Creek and Newfound Harbor.

South Tropical Trail runs the length of the south island, where Georgiana and Lotus sit.

We have built a canal-front backyard here, with a flagstone path in gravel and a paver patio.

We also laid curved brick paver walks at a home in West Riviera.

Streets and neighborhoods we know

  • Indianola
  • Angel City
  • Georgiana
  • Lotus
  • South Tropical Trail

Local conditions

What Merritt Island yards ask for.

Island yards deal with salt water on two sides and county rules instead of a city code.

  • Salt decides the plant list

Within about an eighth of a mile of salt water, UF/IFAS advises plants that tolerate salt.

  • Water on every side

The island fronts the Indian River, Banana River, Sykes Creek and Newfound Harbor. We keep views open.

  • County rules, not a city code

The island is unincorporated. The June 1 to September 30 fertilizer blackout applies countywide.

  • Turf that takes salt

UF/IFAS rates St. Augustine and zoysia good for salt tolerance. It rates bahia very poor.
